What is female alopecia?
First, we must explain that we are talking about alopecia when referring to an abnormal, excessive hair loss, and it is considered abnormal when hair loss exceeds 100 hairs per day.
This situation is associated with a significant social and emotional impact, especially female alopecia, which worsens the negative perception of women who suffer from it and turns it into a very relevant element of anguish and unease.
There are several types of alopecia depending on their origin and evolution. Two of the most common are seasonal hair loss or telogen effluvium (TE) and androgenetic alopecia (AA).
TE consists of excessive hair loss with a diffuse pattern caused by an alteration in the hair’s growth phases, causing a greater number of hairs to enter the shedding phase. The most frequent causes are:
- Seasonality (especially autumn and spring).
- Nutritional deficiencies.
- Stress.
- Postpartum.
It is a temporary and reversible situation if the causes are resolved.
In contrast, AA has a hormonal and genetic component, which makes it a chronic process. It is characterized by the progressive thinning of hair until it is completely lost. It is more commonly associated with postmenopausal women, although it may appear less frequently in younger women.
How can we detect it?
Seasonal hair loss is characterized by a sudden onset, and by noticing an exaggerated presence of hairs in the shower after washing, in the brush when combing, and on the pillow.

The loss of capillary density due to AA in women becomes evident by a widening of the part line. It does not have a marked start, but becomes evident after months or years of evolution.
In the presence of these symptoms, which indicate the onset of alopecia, you can start using the treatments presented by Pilopeptan® Woman. It is advisable to consult with a dermatologist to help us differentiate what type of hair loss we are facing and what is the best solution.
How to stop hair loss?
If we are facing seasonal hair loss:
In terms of nutritional supplements, the combination of Pilopeptan® Intensive, taking one sachet a day for 1 month, followed by 1 tablet a day of Pilopeptan® Woman Tablets for 3 more months, has proven to be effective in stopping hair loss and restoring its healthy appearance. Results tested through a clinical study carried out with 160 women with 12 dermatologists.
If it is androgenetic alopecia:
As we mentioned above, this type of hair loss has a high hormonal component, with 5α-reductase being the enzyme responsible for accelerating this process. Pilopeptan® Woman 5αR is the nutritional supplement specifically designed to combat this situation by inhibiting the action of said enzyme. Taking 1 tablet a day helps to stop the miniaturization of hair and slows down the evolution of the process.
To complement both treatments, the Pilopeptan range® Woman also includes complementary topical products: Pilopeptan ® Woman Anti-Hair Loss Shampoo, Pilopeptan ® Woman Regenerating Hair Mask or Pilopeptan ® Hair Repair Serum to also care for the hair from the outside. All products are formulated without sulfates or dyes and are specifically designed for the care of women’s hair.
